My profession has meant the world to me. All of the people I have met (peers, patients, staff members and their families), have affected me in so many good ways that I could not imagine having a career that could possibly be more fulfilling. I am lucky to have the job of being a dentist and am thankful every day that I do. I hope to make my patients' lives better by trying to make the dental experience better than they expect it to be—sometimes they even enjoy it!
A Family Tradition of Making People Smile
I’ve been practicing dentistry for more than 30 years. Dentistry has always been a big part of my life—it runs in the family! My grandfather, father, and uncle were all dentists, so I grew up knowing just how rewarding this profession could be. From a young age, I knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps, and I’ve never looked back.
I grew up in Superior, WI, and attended Northwestern High School in Maple. From there, I went to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biology while playing football and running track. I continued my journey at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, graduating with my DDS in 1994.
Over the past three decades, I’ve been committed to staying at the forefront of dental advancements. As a member of the Wisconsin Dental Association, American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, and CEREC Doctors, I regularly participate in continuing education to ensure I provide the highest quality care. By incorporating the latest techniques and technology, I strive to make every patient’s experience as comfortable and efficient as possible.
At Home and in the Community
My first 17 years of practice were spent in Superior, WI, before moving to Duluth, MN, where I’ve been for the past 13 years. Our family has a cabin in my hometown of Lake Nebagamon, WI, which has been a special getaway spot for us for 28 years.
Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Amy, who was also a UMD athlete, and our three kids. Maya, our oldest, works as the front office manager at Callaway Dental. Shay is currently in dental school at Boston University, on track to become the fourth generation of Callaway dentists. Dane, our youngest, plays junior hockey with the Fargo Force in the USHL, and we love cheering him on at his games. Of course, we can’t forget Winn, our cat, who keeps us on our toes at home!
When we’re not busy with hockey or work, you can find us enjoying time at the cabin, attending community events in Superior and Duluth, or traveling when we can. We’ve always been active in our kids’ sports and all the volunteering that comes with it, but now that things are slowing down, we’ve started exploring more community activities and opportunities to give back.
Being part of this community and building relationships with patients is one of the best parts of what I do. I’m grateful for the trust my patients place in me and look forward to continuing to provide care for years to come.
